can't access phone files

I have spent MANY hours trying to make this work. I can't open the files on my phone or anything. The file screen for the phone even shows when the phone is not connected by USB. I just want to copy pictures and video to my computer. What do I need to do? The phone even charges by USB. I have two V3C Motorola phones. Neither works with this P2kCommander.
the path to the phone is P2k:/seems/
I wonder if the following are the problem? It says:
USB: IO Time-out!
CMD: Data write fail!
Volume name fail!
