Can someone help. I have a K1 (Previously I had a Sony Ercsson w810i)) and I've been trying to download themes. Only recently I discovered Motorola themes are different to Sony's themes and what I'm really after are 'skins'. So when I use the MultiMedia Studio which came with the phone I find I can't download skins at all with it. I can connect to the phone using a USB cable no problem and view/transfer JPG and PNG images but can't get a skin to download and I can't see any themes on the phone yet there are the three that came with the phone as standard.
So, now I've found pk2 I can get this to work fine except it doesn't recognise the USB connection and I can't communicate with the phone. It seems to reconise the Motorola modem is available on COM10 but can't handshake with it. I seem to have the correct drivers otherwise MultiMedia Studio wouldn't work so what do I need to do to get Pk2 to recognise the phone? The P2k Commander V-4.9.C recognises there is a device there (/a P2k Phone System) and its on COM10 but I get the message 'No P2k device found - NOT Connected. What's missing or what else do I need to do?
I have XP SP2 and all Motorola updates installed.

I tried this and it worked only once! I've ensured the 'phones and modem options' in the control panel shows the modem is sitting on COM10 but as soon as I fire-up P2kCommander it disconnects the phone!! This is shown on the P2kAutoStart Log and I can also hear the Windows USB Disconnect sound. Yet despite this the Motorola MultMedia Studio finds the modem immediately and shows everything on the phone except the skins.
What is going on? The phone and its USB is working fine and the P2kCommander has been installed again and again along with the drivers.

OK but I still get the "No Pk2 device found - NOT connected"
On Pk2 Commander the following is shown in the drop-down menu:
Yellow Star /a P2k phone system ? /b Pk2 Phone tFlash ? /c Pk2 Phone User ? /e Pk2 Phone User (red circle crossed out) /Pk2 Phone Seems
Clicking on P2k phone seems displays a whole bunch of numeric/alpha filenames. Where is this coming from if its not the phone? Clicking on any one of them takes me back to the PC Drive C:

your p2k driver not operational try to remove and re-install if p2k device not found file and seem operations is useless seem list is in the Seem.lst file, which is can be re-generated macthing your phone in discover seems menupoint
But once more you need p2k drivers
ps. your K1 isnt K1m? if yes this is CDMA phone (mark.cdmaforums.com)

As far as I know it isn't the K1m (which doesn't have bluetooth and has a 1.3mp camera .... is that correct?). It looks the same but nowhere on the phone or the box it arrived in does it say K1m so, I assume it isn't.
This thing has me beat. It was suggested the MS USB drivers needed the patch KB822603 but this patch is for XP SP1 and not required for SP2.
This is my first Motorola phone and frankly, I'm disappointed. The phone is great, I like it very much but next to Sony Ericsson the Motorola Support is extremely inferior. Yes, I can connect easily to the phone with Multmedia Studio but, as far as I can make out Motorola doesn't provide any software to load themes and skins to the K1. I can't even find themes and skins for the K1, the RAZR is the nearest. A bit of a hole in their product support I would have thought. I'll stick to Sony Ericsson from now on.
Unless you have any other suggestions thanks very much for your patience and suggestions to-date. Best Regards.

Perseverance. I followed the step-by-step guide in the ModMyMoto guides and downloaded the recommended drivers from Motorola, installed them and downloaded Pk2 Tools VERSION 3 (since 'other versions of Pk2 Tools don't work' ..... according to the author). I fired-up Pk2 Tools and et-voila 'connected' !!! I'm stunned.
I can see all K1 folders and now I'm about to try and find 'Flash&Backup' and try and download and install skins.
Thanks again for all your help, it has been an education. Are there any tips you can give me from here? For example are these software applications superceded by better one?

If you are experiencing connection problems try this site http://www.modmymoto.com/guides/krzr/ You'll find everything you need to know to get started from here. Choose your phone first, top left - (KRZR K1 not K1m) and then choose 'Get Connected' from the left (see below): (follow it exactly and it should work ... it did for me and I tried everything else). Once you are connected go to Seem Editing and use 'Pk2Tools 3' (follow the link). This is a very stable product and worked first time for me. Good luck. Home Get Connected Flashing/Flexing File Transfer Seem Editing Back It Up Taking it Apart Common Mods Advanced Mods Reference Custom Externa Image Installing Java
